In the "better late than never?" category, Code Monkey Publishing has
finally released the data sets for the v3.5 books.

The basic core set for v3.5 is the first item on this page:

I haven't tried the new sets and can't speak to how well they work. Just
thought eTools-using folks might be interested to know they were out.

Oh yes, very interested. Thanks ever so much.

Oh yes, very interested. Thanks ever so much.
I've now purchased/downloaded/installed the new sets. So far, the only
complaint I have is that someone misspelled the name of the "Deceitful"
feat. Otherwise, they seem pretty sturdy: no errors installing, no
crash-type bugs on use.

One question I have about a new entry, though: I'm not sure how "Familiar
Bonus: <type>" works in the feats list. It seems like it should be a free
feat for characters with the appropriate familiar, but I couldn't figure
out how to add it to my Wiz9 (who has a Hawk familiar) without costing him
a feat slot, which it shouldn't.

The data sets don't fix the limitations of eTools itself, either: there's
still, fr'instance, no way to specify metamagic on prepared spells (I can
put _fly_ into a 4th-level slot, but not specify that it's an Extended
_fly_ spell). Not that I expected a data set to fix that, but it's worth
pointing out. Maybe eTools 2.0 will address this one.

It may sounds like I'm complaining about the new set, but I'm really not:
just being able to generate 3.5 NPCs and characters makes the data set well
worth the $6.75 cost IMO.

Cool. BTW, was it the typical "I before E..." mistake? Or something
completely different?

Hm, dunno. I'll have to check it out when I finally get round to
buying it.

Yeah, I'm definitely grabbing it. Just got some logistical issues to
work out first.

It's the usual "i-before-e-except-after-c" problem. Not a huge deal (it's
only a label and doesn't affect functionality at all), just that it was the
first thing I noticed.

Too little, too late, I'm afraid.
I've moved on to DM Genie, a much better product.

Just checked out DM Genie for the first time. It seems to have a few warts
but overall looks like a real asset. You can get a full-feature 60-day
trial. Some initial comments:

-Working up campaign specific items was pretty straight-forward.
-Still need to work out a few details like how to show rapid-shot bow fire
and whether creature multiple attacks have the proper penalties worked in
for secondary attacks (not sure they do).
-Printed character sheets are acceptable but could be better formated with
better page-break control.
-found it surprisingly easy to get my 9th level rogue's paper sheet to agree
with the generated version and that included creating a few special feats to
represent some starting advantages we allow players and some
campaign-specific magic items.
-lots of tutorials; ones I tried looked reasonable and quick
-Might take a lot of the drudgery out combat preps...

I put a couple of sample character sheets on the web page below. My rogue
probably took about 30 minutes, including looking stuff up in help and
online. The drow took 5-10 minutes.
