Discussion:
3.5 half-ogre template in dragon magazine

I recall seeing a 3.5 half-ogre template in dragon magazine some
months back. I'm trying to convert my 3.0 half-ogre to 3.5. In
addition to some feats not being available in 3.5 (extra rage for
barbarians, or roll with it for monstrous characters), the half-ogre
template in dragon was different. I think it had a +2 natural armor
bonus instead of +4. I'm not sure what else might have been
different.

Can anyone point me towards which issue had the template? I've
glanced through but haven't been able to find it.

Thanks,
James

take a look at crystalkeep.com, they have it listed.
but also note that there is an half-ogre race in savage species.

<piggybacking>

The template was definitely different. For one, it is a template, rather
than a race. For another, all the templates from that issue include the
actual stat bonuses from the size increase (which makes them pretty damned
powerful, probably *too* powerful for a mere +1 LA).

That is what I was thinking. Unless they have been replaced or errata'd out
of existance, they should still be good. Roll With Blow is hugely powerful,
so I could understand a GM not allowing it, though.

I think you could go with either. I like the one from Dragon, because it is
a template. I might bump it the LA to +2, though.

At least. The half-minotaur is under-adjusted, too.

It's a little tiresome when Dragon presents a *totally* different concept of
balance than, say, the majority of the good d20 products out there. Their
werecreature class article was broken, too - those classes didn't even produce
the lycanthropes from the Monster Manual!

What part of "Ph'nglui mglw'nath Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" don't you
understand?

You're not a bad person. You're a terrific person. You're my favorite person.
But every once in a while you just can be a real cunt.

I have to agree that the self-inconsistancy displayed in current D&D
is annoying. You'd think that say an EDITOR might glance at something
before it went to print...

Even in its current state, it's better than most RPGs out there. Hell, it's
better than previous editions, tho' that doesn't count for much. ;)

It was Dragon #313, pp. 95-96.
